Boris Polonskiy had a passion for physical fitness and martial arts since very young age after being consistently bullied in his home country Ukraine. Upon coming to US when he was 13 that passion began to take shape. He got into fitness in local park in Brooklyn, following his mentor at that time Igor Reznik who was also a school teacher. Few years later Boris enrolled into Tae Kwan Do school. Five years later he received his black belt and began search for something more challenging. Boris began training Judo under Sensei Kiyoshi Shiina when he turned 21. He has achieved success in the sport as well as the rank on Niku over the course of 5 years. The training sessions were getting more difficult as Boris was also working on his doctorate degree in physical therapy. Eventually Boris had to stop Judo for a long while in order to establish his practice as a doctor and to raise a family. Although unable to train consistently Boris maintained his physical fitness level and attended sporadic Judo classes in various schools. It was always his dream to return to judo and when his two sons became of age they began training in the sport. Years went by and Boris’s practice was finally established and it was time to follow his passion again. He retuned to intense judo training in 2016. Boris was inspired by dedication and knowledge of Sensei Richard Dellumo who was also an instructor for Boris’s sons. Seeing the progress his children were making was a huge push for Boris to return. Since then he has been training Judo and Japanese Jujitsu 4-5 days a week and has achieved his long term life goal the rank of Shodan in Judo. Since then Boris has competed in multiple Judo tournaments, bringing home gold on many occasions. Now his learning and training continues as he is spreading the knowledge to the kids and all those willing to learn at Dento Teki Na Judo and Jujitsu Dojo. For Boris Judo is more then a sport it’s way of life.
I started practicing Judo as a teenager in Italy from 13 till 19 years old. After moving to NYC in 96 Judo was always in my heart. Finally I started all over again with Dento Teki Na Judo. I think Judo is a good sport for fitness, stress relief, cardio, discipline, and self-defense. at the moment I'm a brown belt hoping enroute to make black belt.
